Blog #35

The entire point of my paper is to get people to realize the apathy that is so prevalent in the world today. Truth be told, that is simply the only purpose of my paper. I am not going to take a stance and try to get people to side with it, because doing so would be unreasonable. I would basically be asking people to start caring about everyone who died and tell them to take on an unnecessary burden. The entire situation doesn't particularly bother me, what bothers me is that people don't exactly realize that it's going on. Thus, my paper is about remedying that lack of realization.
I suppose one purpose would be to get people fired up about it, although I wouldn't be getting them fired up over one stance over another exactly. They could make that decision themselves, if they so desired. My paper's only objective is to get a point out there, and let people analyze it as they see fit. Maybe I should take more of a stance on it, and try and persuade people how to feel. If my paper seems to be lacking an argument, or doesn't have a clear direction, I suppose I could take up the stance that tells people that they should care more. Regardless of what stance I take, the point of the paper will have already gotten across, hopefully, and people will start to look at themselves and society in a slightly different light. In doing this, maybe some people will choose to look at death with a heavier light.

  1. I really like this topic for a paper. And I also don't think it would hurt if you took a stance siding for caring more. People should care more. We don't want to live in a heartless world.. my opinion of course.. anyways sounds like you have a great start to your paper!

  2. I think that it's good that you're not trying to pressure people into thinking a certain way but I also think you should put your opinion on the matter in there.

  3. If you don't take a stance at all it may come off to the readers that you have a weaker argument. If you believe in what you are researching it helps make things easier.

  4. I do feel that many people overlook the hardships of death but i think this is because it a a natural occurance and there is sometimes nothing you can do about it. I do think people need to care more but not to the extend of being depressed. I think letting your readers decide how they should act upon your stance is a good idea.

  5. I like this topic. I think you have a good point and I might suggest mentioning something about how self-centered people in the world today can be, and how that relates to your topic.

  6. This is a very interesting topic and very timely. I do agree that most people are desensitized to deaths and they feel that they can be overlooked. What do you think will be your personal aspect of the paper?

  7. I think I'll probably end up expressing sadness over the desensitization. Particularly with the recent death of Bin Laden, and how a death seems to be the most joyous occasion this country has had in awhile. That seems just... wrong.

  8. This makes me think of how we're getting graded in our papers. I think you could state the argument as "to put the idea out there", and I'm sure it would be technically correct, but is one of our learning objectives to be persuasive?
It's possible to persuade someone to consider yoru topic.

  9. That's my general issue. I figure I'm missing the point of the assignment if I don't try to make a stance. So I'll probably end up taking one, especially because the more I think about it, the more I feel swayed to the side.

  10. It's hard to take a stance on apathy because we all have different opinions and influences. An apathetic stance would deem you more carefree I believe ? That would be my stance in most instances .

  11. the truth is, i think trying to persuade people one way or another would ruin your argument. you're not trying to change how people think, but inform them of the situation so that they can make their own opinions! I think you're on the right track

  12. My worry is that apathetic people will be too apathetic to have their opinions changed (haha). But in all seriousness, I think this is an interesting topic.
